Traveling With Your Four-Legged Friend
Written by Kristy L. Escue – WriteThruYourSoul.com "...Where real Writing comes from within."
For most of us, vacation-time is right around the corner and you’re stressing over who can take care of your dog while you’re gone. Understandably, most of us do this every year.
Well this year, stress no more and take your dog with you! It can be a very fun and exciting time for you and your dog.
If taking your dog with you is not an option, find a local Pet-Hotel like Pet-Smart or a reliable Kennel in your area to house your dog while you are away from home. Most Hotels and Kennels have set prices for your breed and size dog and is well worth the cost if you can’t take your dog with you. Pet-Smart has One-on-One play times to spend with your dog while he is at their facility and this will certainly help while you are temporarily separated.
Whether you decide to Kennel your dog or take him to a Pet-Hotel, be sure Immunizations are up to date. Don’t be surprised if they want a copy of the dog’s shot records. Most good Pet-Hotels and Kennels will require this information for the safety of your dog and the others they keep. Be sure to get a phone number for the Kennel or Pet-Hotel where your dog is at so you can call and check on him or more importantly, they can get in touch with you if they need to. I also suggest taking your dog’s favorite food, toys, chews and bed to help comfort while you are away. This will be a stressful time for your dog, but taking time to plan his Pet-Hotel or Kennel stay before you get there, will help him have everything he needs to be as close to "stress-free" as possible.
If you are able to take your dog with you, both of you are in for a treat! Traveling with a dog is not as hard as people have made it out to be. Be sure the hotel you are staying at is "Pet Friendly" in advance. Don’t forget your dog's leash and the bed your dog is used to lying on at home. This will help soothe him during travel time. Carry a few toys and chews with you to help keep him occupied during your travel and play time.
Most importantly, have fun on your vacation! |
