Puppy or Dog lover are you? Sure you are. In fact, most of us are big fans of these furry little creatures, but don’t get sucked into buying a puppy from a Puppy Mill. You will certainly regret it if you do.
For years we have heard horror stories from people who have had terrible experiences with buying a puppy from a Puppy Mill. Puppies were bought and taken home had soon the obvious signs of emotional problems and even aggression problems began to show. Many had diseases and were mistreated, underfed and the list goes on and on.
Understanding What Is A Puppy Mill: A Puppy Mill is where many puppies and dogs are crated and fenced together that are for sale fairly inexpensive. Most Puppy Mills have puppies and dogs of all breeds and sizes. They have had little or no care and have been crated probably their entire life.
How Can You Spot A Puppy Mill? : That might be a little difficult based on the fact that the owner of all of these animals don’t want it to be "obvious" that they are running a Puppy Mill. They may or may not appear dirty or filthy or have trash everywhere, but there are signs that will tell you if you are witnessing a Puppy Mill first hand.
Look at how many dogs they actually have housed there. If there are several breeds of puppies or dogs, you are probably at a Puppy Mill. If they were a reliable breeder, they would only have one specific breed and would only have a few puppies to offer you.
Look for flies and feces where the puppies are kept. That is a sign of mistreatment and the possibility of disease.
Do these puppies or dogs have access to clean water and food?
Puppy Mill owners can be nice to you because you are a potential customer, but don’t let them fool you or talk you into buying a puppy.
Paper work is a big deal when it comes to buying a puppy. Most Puppy Mills will have artificial papers and shot records. Don’t fall into that trap. Puppy Mills try to push their fake papers all day long. They think if the puppy has "papers" you are more likely to buy the puppy
Try to take a look behind the scene too. Look at the building, the property and land around you. If the property does not feel acceptable to you, it probably isn’t.
If you see or witness a Puppy Mill, report it to authorities immediately. As animal lovers, we must come together to help protect these puppies. If we don’t who will?
